East Bengal ( / b ɛ n ˈ ɡ ɔː l / ; Bengali : পূর্ব বাংলা/পূর্ববঙ্গ Purbô Bangla/Purbôbongo ) was the eastern province of the Dominion of Pakistan , which covered the territory of modern-day Bangladesh .
