The Zollernalbkreis is a Landkreis (district) in the middle of Baden-Württemberg , Germany . The district is located in the Swabian Alb , and contains the second highest elevation of this range, the 1,011-metre (3,317 ft) high Oberhohenberg . In the south-east the district nearly reaches to the river Danube .

15-668: Dreifürstenstein is a mountain in Zollernalbkreis , Baden-Württemberg , Germany . 48°22′23″N 9°02′38″E / 48.37306°N 9.04389°E / 48.37306; 9.04389 This Baden-Württemberg location article is a stub . Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Tübingen , Reutlingen , Sigmaringen , Tuttlingen , Rottweil and Freudenstadt . The coat of arms shows

30-535: Is possible to identify traces of the border. After the inauguration of the firing ranges, a meadow in Meßstetten was allocated as a camping site at the edge of the restricted area. Until 1835 merchandise was smuggled over the customs borders guarded by local hunters. Hans Ungnad von Weißenwolff, Freiherr von Sonneck, Hans III. (1493–1564) Bible printer and smuggler in Bad Urach Coffee smuggler Haux had

45-739: Is wood in the Tuttlinger Fruchtkasten. Steel was produced in Tuttlingen by the Schwäbische Hüttenwerke in Ludwigstal, which produces now iron brakes. In Meßstetten-Michelfeld sand was found in an old arm of Danube . Christian Kiesinger (1876–1969) father of Kurt Georg Kiesinger had a factory. Ooidal iron ore (Bohnerz aus Eisenroggenstein) was found. After the Franco-Prussian War

60-573: The sea floor , most commonly in shallow tropical seas (around the Bahamas , for example, or in the Persian Gulf ). After being buried under additional sediment , these ooid grains can be cemented together to form a sedimentary rock called an oolite . Oolites usually consist of calcium carbonate; these belong to the limestone rock family. Pisoids are similar to ooids, but are larger than 2 mm in diameter, often considerably larger, as with

75-512: The aragonite layers in originally bimineralic ooids). Moldic ooids (or molds later filled in by calcite cement) occur in both young and ancient rocks, indicating the removal of a soluble polymorph (usually aragonite). Whether ooids become calcitic or aragonitic can be linked to strontium / calcium substitution within the crystalline structure . This has been shown in some examples to be due to temperature fluctuations in marine environments , which affects salinity levels, which in turn facilitate

90-491: The black-and-white checkered symbol of Hohenzollern in the left half, and the triple black deer antler on the yellow ground as the symbol of Württemberg . Almost all of the district's area belonged to these two states historically. In the area of Zollernalbkreis, Swabian German is spoken. In former times, Yiddish , Pleißne and Romani was also spoken. The Pleißne was spoken by hawkers selling items such as baskets, brushes, and whips, and belongs to Rotwelsch . It

105-500: The lattices of the radial crystals. The mode of growth of ooids with tangential (usually minute needle-like) crystals is less clear. They may be accumulated in a "snowball" fashion from tiny crystals in the sediment or water, or they may crystallize in place on the ooid surface. A hypothesis of growth by accretion (like a snowball) from the polymineralic sediment of fine aragonite, high-magnesium calcite (HMC) and low-magnesium calcite (LMC), must explain how only aragonite needles are added to

120-783: The mining was stopped. In Germany coal mining stopped 2018. black stone was mined for Operation Desert (German fuel project) . Black coal is mined from the Posidonia Shale. Jet work (to make black jewellery which was very fashionable), was called Beinschnitzen. 48°17′N 8°56′E / 48.283°N 8.933°E / 48.283; 8.933 Ooid Ooids ( / ˈ oʊ ˌ ɔɪ d / , from Ancient Greek ᾠόν (ōión)  'egg stone') are small (commonly ≤2 mm in diameter), spheroidal , "coated" (layered) sedimentary grains, usually composed of calcium carbonate , but sometimes made up of iron - or phosphate -based minerals. Ooids usually form on

135-453: The ooid cortex. Both in tangential and in radial ooids, the cortex is composed of many very fine increments of growth. Some modern (and ancient) ooids partially or totally lack clear layering and have a micritic (very fine grained) texture. Examination of such micritic ooids by scanning electron microscopy often shows evidence of microbial borings later filled by fine cement. There are several factors that affect ooid growth: supersaturation of

150-717: The pisoids in the hot springs at Carlsbad ( Karlovy Vary ) in the Czech Republic . An ooid forms as a series of concentric layers around a nucleus. The layers contain crystals arranged radially, tangentially or randomly. The nucleus can be a shell fragment, quartz grain or any other small fragment. Most modern ooids are aragonite , a polymorph of calcium carbonate; some are composed of high-magnesium calcite , and some are bimineralic (layers of calcite and aragonite). Ancient ooids can be calcitic, either originally precipitated as calcite (as in calcite seas ), or formed by alteration (neomorphic replacement) of aragonitic ooids (or

165-836: The primary products mined. The Goldhöhle mine was in Erlaheim near Mildersbach, Schwefelkies , in Geislingen. It later collapsed. In former times iron ore was mined on the Heuberg. Fidel Eppler was the name of the mine inspector. The buttress wood was bought in Truchtelfingen and used by Lautlingen miners at the Hörnle area. In Oberdigisheim Geppert in 1738 SHW-Ludwigsthal produced iron ore. From an old 3.5 km mine in an ooidal iron ore seam (Doggererzflöz) in Weilheim

180-632: The substitution. Marine calcitic ooids were typically formed during calcite sea intervals, especially during the Ordovician and the Jurassic Periods. The geochemistry of these seas was a function of seafloor spreading and fluctuating Mg/Ca ratios. Low Mg/Ca ratios favor the precipitation of low-magnesium calcite. Ooids with radial crystals (such as the aragonitic ooids in the Great Salt Lake , Utah, US) grow by ions extending

195-827: The water with respect to calcium carbonate, the availability of nuclei, agitation of the ooids, water depth, and the role of microbes . Sometimes fossils are included in ooids, often forming the nuclei. This taphonomic process is termed ooimmuration (Wilson et al., 2021). The formation of the ooid cortex around the test or shell protects it from abrasion, fragmentation and bioerosion. Ooimmuration also retains fine organic remains that would ordinarily be winnowed away by currents. 210-648: Was killed on 21 July 1831 in Pfaffental. Ébénistes make case furniture , either veneered or painted. Frommern was the world capital of furniture in the time of Wirtschaftswunder . In Frommern a line of high polished industrial production take up the ideas of the royal Hofebenist . In the Haus der Volkskunst of the Schwäbischer Albverein the traditional Himmelbett is use as a hotel bed. Sandstone, limestone, black coal and sand have been

225-538: Was used as a code. Within the Heuberg Training Area there is the legendary Dreibannmarke , also called the "Bahn", a 17th-century border, which today marks the border between three different municipalities, formerly in the three states of Württemberg, Baden, and Hohenzollern. The meadow at the Dreibannmarke served as a stopping place for traveling merchants, wagons and craftsmen. With care it
