Ippen Shōnin ( 一遍上人 , 1234–1289 , also known as Zuien ) was a Japanese Buddhist itinerant preacher ( hijiri ) who founded the Ji-shū ( 時宗 , "Time sect") branch of Pure Land Buddhism .
