Jack L. Rives (born 1952) is a former American military officer and executive director and chief operating officer of the American Bar Association . Rives is a former TJAG ("The Judge Advocate General") of the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps . In 2008, he became the first Judge Advocate General in any service to hold the rank of lieutenant general . He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1977 until 2010.
