Matmata ( Arabic : مطماطة maṭmāṭa ; Berber : ⵎⴰⵜⵎⴰⵜⴰ) is a small Berber speaking town in southern Tunisia . Some of the local Berber residents live in traditional underground " troglodyte " structures. In 2004 it had a population of 2,116.
