Svendborg Municipality ( Danish : Svendborg Kommune ) is a kommune in the Region of Southern Denmark on the southeast coast of the island of Funen , as well as on the islands of Drejø , Hjortø , Skarø , Thurø , and Tåsinge off Funen's southeastern shores in south-central Denmark . The municipality covers an area of 418 km, and has a total population of 59,727 (2024). Its mayor is Bo Hansen (2017), a member of the Social Democrats political party . The main town and the site of its municipal council is the city of Svendborg .
