Transjakarta (stylised as transjakarta , often erroneously called Busway , sometimes shortened as TJ and branded as TiJe ) or Jakarta BRT is a bus rapid transit (BRT) system in Jakarta , Indonesia . The first BRT system in Southeast Asia, it commenced operations on 15 January 2004 to provide a fast public transport system to help reduce rush hour traffic. The system is considered as the first revolutionary public transit mode in the capital city of Indonesia. The buses run in dedicated lanes ( busways ), and ticket prices are subsidised by the regional government. Transjakarta has the world's longest BRT system (251.2 km in length), which operates about 4,300 buses. Transjakarta aims to have 50 percent of its fleet be electric buses by 2027. By 2030, the aim is for the entire Transjakarta ecosystem to use electric buses. As of November 2023, it serves an average of 1.134 million passengers daily.
114-637: Transjakarta system is operated by municipally-owned company PT Transportasi Jakarta . However, most of its fleet is operated by various companies aside of the company itself. Transjakarta was conceived to provide a fast, comfortable, and affordable mass transportation system. The proposal for a BRT system in Jakarta was emerged in 2001. Governor of Jakarta at the time, Sutiyoso proposed four mass public transportation modes in Jakarta: The MRT have larger passenger capacity and short travel time than
228-472: A Transjakarta shelter include fans, top-up vending machines (although some older and smaller shelters lack this), and wayfinding boards showing which bus stops at which gate. All stations are also equipped with passenger information system (PIS) displays for each platform direction showing estimated time of arrival and number of upcoming and arriving buses, although its accuracy is questionable as it does not account traffic jams. Some shelters have two stories, with
342-507: A Transjakarta ticket since its opening has been a flat rate of Rp 2.000,- at concessional times (05.00 a.m. to 07.00 a.m.) and Rp 3.500,- (about 24 US cents) each trip at all other times. The fare applies to all BRT and Non-BRT services, except Royaltrans, Mikrotrans, and city travel (Bus Wisata) services. Royaltrans costs Rp20.000,- each trip (or Rp35.000,- for some routes), while Mikrotrans and Bus Wisata are free to ride, although Mikrotrans still requires its passengers to tap in and out. One trip
456-425: A diesel fuel. A higher cetane number indicates that the fuel ignites more readily when sprayed into hot compressed air. European (EN 590 standard) road diesel has a minimum cetane number of 51. Fuels with higher cetane numbers, normally "premium" diesel fuels with additional cleaning agents and some synthetic content, are available in some markets. About 86.1% of diesel fuel mass is carbon, and when burned, it offers
570-481: A driver's door on the front-left side of the bus for big buses and a pair of hydraulic folding doors for medium buses. Transjakarta buses have electronic boards and speakers that announce the name of shelters in Indonesian and English, bi-directional radio transceivers for communication between drivers and control centers, at least four mandatory CCTV cameras per bus, and automatic air freshener dispensers to keep
684-600: A few minutes due to coal dust deposition. Before diesel fuel was standardised, diesel engines typically ran on cheap fuel oils. In the United States, these were distilled from petroleum, whereas in Europe, coal-tar creosote oil was used. Some diesel engines were fuelled with mixtures of fuels, such as petrol, kerosene, rapeseed oil, or lubricating oil which were cheaper because, at the time, they were not being taxed. The introduction of motor-vehicle diesel engines, such as
798-469: A gel at temperatures of −19 to −15 °C (−2 to 5 °F), that cannot flow in fuel systems. Conventional diesel fuels vaporise at temperatures between 149 °C and 371 °C. Conventional diesel flash points vary between 52 and 96 °C, which makes it safer than petrol and unsuitable for spark-ignition engines. Unlike petrol, the flash point of a diesel fuel has no relation to its performance in an engine nor to its auto ignition qualities. As
912-496: A good approximation the chemical formula of diesel is C n H 2n . Diesel is a mixture of different molecules. As carbon has a molar mass of 12 g/mol and hydrogen has a molar mass of about 1 g/mol, so the fraction by weight of carbon in EN ;590 diesel fuel is roughly 12/14. The reaction of diesel combustion is given by: 2 C n H 2n + 3n O 2 ⇌ 2n CO 2 + 2n H 2 O Carbon dioxide has
1026-472: A means of separating the fission product palladium from PUREX raffinate which comes from used nuclear fuel . In this system of solvent extraction, the hydrocarbons of the diesel act as the diluent while the di alkyl sulfides act as the extractant. This extraction operates by a solvation mechanism. So far, neither a pilot plant nor full scale plant has been constructed to recover palladium, rhodium or ruthenium from nuclear wastes created by
1140-615: A molar mass of 44g/mol as it consists of 2 atoms of oxygen (16 g/mol) and 1 atom of carbon (12 g/mol). So 12 g of carbon yield 44 g of Carbon dioxide. Diesel has a density of 0.838 kg per liter. Putting everything together the mass of carbon dioxide that is produced by burning 1 liter of diesel fuel can be calculated as: 0.838 k g / L ⋅ 12 14 ⋅ 44 12 = 2.63 k g / L {\displaystyle 0.838kg/L\cdot {\frac {12}{14}}\cdot {\frac {44}{12}}=2.63kg/L} The figure obtained with this estimation
1254-608: A net heating value of 43.1 MJ/kg as opposed to 43.2 MJ/kg for gasoline. Due to the higher density, diesel fuel offers a higher volumetric energy density: the density of EN 590 diesel fuel is defined as 0.820 to 0.845 kg/L (6.84 to 7.05 lb/US gal) at 15 °C (59 °F), about 9.0-13.9% more than EN 228 gasoline (petrol)'s 0.720–0.775 kg/L (6.01–6.47 lb/US gal) at 15 °C, which should be put into consideration when comparing volumetric fuel prices. The CO 2 emissions from diesel are 73.25 g/MJ, just slightly lower than for gasoline at 73.38 g/MJ. Diesel fuel

The capacity of each bus varies from 85, 100 to 120 passengers. Single Mercedes-Benz and Hino buses can carry about 85 passengers. Scania , Mercedes-Benz and Volvo Maxi buses can carry 100 passengers, and 120 can be carried by a standard articulated bus. Transjakarta operates some Chinese-made Zhongtong and Swedish-made Scania articulated buses on long corridors and those passing mostly straight roads in mix with non-articulated buses. Articulated buses may also be used for some high-demand cross-corridor BRT routes. Passengers can only board Transjakarta's BRT buses from designated shelters due to
1482-402: A recent transfer to ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD), which causes infrastructural complications. In Sweden, a diesel fuel designated as MK-1 (class 1 environmental diesel) is also being sold. This is a ULSD that also has a lower aromatics content, with a limit of 5%. This fuel is slightly more expensive to produce than regular ULSD. In Germany, the fuel tax on diesel fuel is about 28% lower than
1596-544: A record in 2018 when it carried 730,000 passengers per day, a significant jump from 331,000 per day in 2015. About 189.8 million passengers used Transjakarta in 2018 and targeted to serve one million passengers daily. In November 2020, Transjakarta won the 2021 Sustainable Transport Award . As of September 2019, Transjakarta is currently testing electric buses , with Bundaran Senayan – Monas as its first route. Transjakarta has undertaken an ambitious plan to expand its electric bus (e-bus) fleet to 10,000 units over
1710-524: A reduced-tax agricultural-only product containing an identifying coloured dye known as red diesel . The official term for white diesel is DERV , standing for diesel-engine road vehicle . In Australia , diesel fuel is also known as distillate (not to be confused with "distillate" in an older sense referring to a different motor fuel), and in Indonesia (as well in Israel ), it is known as Solar ,
1824-681: A report from the Indonesian Consumers Protection Foundation in 2011, the most common complaint from passengers about the service offered by Transjakarta was the long wait times for buses at some of the main shelters. This issue rearises during revitalisation project and closure of Harmoni in 2022, with customers complaining that Monumen Nasional as a transit point has not enough doors to serve many routes and shelters double-dutying as an alternative to revitalised ones are too small. The large Harmoni Central Busway (HCB) shelter on Jalan Gadjah Mada, Central Jakarta,
1938-506: A road crossing. Similarly, the Blok M stop provides stair access to the nearby Blok M Mall. Accessing the shelter requires passengers to tap an electronic payment card (known as tap in), which they have to do again to exit the arrival shelter (known as tap out). Older Transjakarta shelters are primarily constructed using aluminium, steel, glass, and concrete materials. The walls are made of aluminium and glass covers, with tread plates constructing
2052-720: A ticket in the Jabodetabek Commuter Train system as of June 2014, easing the integration plan between the BRT and the commuter train system. In April and May 2014, the Transjakarta management started compulsory use of e-tickets at several terminus in the system, based on news that the BCA Flazz Card could also be used in Jabodetabek Commuter Train . In mid-October 2014, 56% passengers have used e-tickets. Now, all Transjakarta corridors and shelters applied
2166-427: A trademarked name from the country's national petroleum company Pertamina . The term gas oil (French: gazole ) is sometimes also used to refer to diesel fuel. Diesel fuel originated from experiments conducted by German scientist and inventor Rudolf Diesel for his compression-ignition engine which he invented around 1892. Originally, Diesel did not consider using any specific type of fuel. Instead, he claimed that
2280-457: A transit point and as such they only serve Corridor 1. This results in notable changes to routes previously stopping and terminating at Harmoni, with affected corridors and routes, notably Corridor 2, 3, and 8 being rerouted and Monumen Nasional being the new temporary transit point. Some cross-corridor routes deemed no longer needed, such as 8A and 12M, were also scrapped or became limitedly operational. In December 2023, Transjakarta announced that
2394-702: Is (a mix of diesel and biodiesel ). For Corridors 2 (bus colours: blue and white) and 3 (bus colours: yellow and red), the buses are CNG -fueled Daewoo buses imported from South Korea. Corridors 4, 5 and 6 used Grey Daewoo and Hyundai CNG buses, with Komodo and Huanghai articulated buses dedicated for Corridor 5. Grey Hino CNG buses are used for Corridors 7 and 8. Corridors 9 and 10 used Red coloured Hyundai and Komodo articulated buses, whilst Corridor 11 uses red Inobus articulated buses. Corridor 12 used to use red coloured Ankai and Inobus buses as well. Due to various coach builders being involved and design tweaks applied over time,

Other reasons cited was to rename some shelters to match name of areas surrounding them or integrated railway stations, such as those in Kuningan and Cawang with their integrated LRT Jabodebek stations. In 2024, the second naming right was afforded to municipally-owned Bank DKI for Gelora Bung Karno shelter, being rebranded as "Senayan BANK DKI". The cost of
2622-437: Is C 12 H 23 , ranging approximately from C 10 H 20 to C 15 H 28 . Most diesel fuels freeze at common winter temperatures, while the temperatures greatly vary. Petrodiesel typically freezes around temperatures of −8.1 °C (17.4 °F), whereas biodiesel freezes between temperatures of 2 to 15 °C (36 to 59 °F). The viscosity of diesel noticeably increases as the temperature decreases, changing it into

There are also two fire extinguishers at the front and back of the buses. A typical Transjakarta bus
3762-443: Is dictated by the particular composition of and storage plans for diesel fuels. Each is added at the 5-50 ppm level. The diesel engine is a multifuel engine and can run on a huge variety of fuels. However, development of high-performance, high-speed diesel engines for cars and lorries in the 1930s meant that a proper fuel specifically designed for such engines was needed: diesel fuel. In order to ensure consistent quality, diesel fuel
3876-516: Is done at the BRT shelter, while the other tap is done on the bus, unless both boarding and alighting are done each at a BRT shelter. Passengers can easily transfer between BRT and integrated Non-BRT routes at a BRT shelter without tapping again. The most common criticism is the variance of fare-deducting mechanism due to some TOB machines deducting fare at tap in while others and all BRT shelters deduct fare at tap out, sometimes causing double-deducting error, which although has been mostly mitigated and now
3990-588: Is generally simpler to refine from petroleum than gasoline Additional refining is required to remove sulfur, which contributes to a sometimes higher cost. In many parts of the United States and throughout the United Kingdom and Australia, diesel fuel may be priced higher than petrol per gallon or litre . Reasons for higher-priced diesel include the shutdown of some refineries in the Gulf of Mexico , diversion of mass refining capacity to gasoline production, and
4104-502: Is little need for using diesel fuel in aircraft, and diesel fuel is not commercially used as aviation fuel. Instead, petrol ( Avgas ), and jet fuel (e. g. Jet A-1) are used. However, especially in the 1920s and 1930s, numerous series-production aircraft diesel engines that ran on fuel oils were made, because they had several advantages: their fuel consumption was low, they were reliable, not prone to catching fire, and required minimal maintenance. The introduction of petrol direct injection in
4218-473: Is mainly paraffins with low sulfur and aromatics content. This material is blended often into the above mentions petroleum derived diesel. Biodiesel is obtained from vegetable oil or animal fats (bio lipids ) which are mainly fatty acid methyl esters (FAME), and transesterified with methanol . It can be produced from many types of oils, the most common being rapeseed oil (rapeseed methyl ester, RME) in Europe and soybean oil (soy methyl ester, SME) in
4332-437: Is painted with blue and white livery with the Transjakarta logo. Transjakarta buses was previously mandated to use compressed natural gas (CNG) and prohibited from using diesel fuel, but regulations have since been revised to permit diesel-powered buses once again due to efficiency issues and a shortage of CNG refueling stations. To facilitate passenger ingress and egress , buses are outfitted with two doors on either side, while
4446-493: Is produced from various sources, the most common being petroleum . Other sources include biomass , animal fat , biogas , natural gas , and coal liquefaction . Petroleum diesel is the most common type of diesel fuel. It is produced by the fractional distillation of crude oil between 200 and 350 °C (392 and 662 °F) at atmospheric pressure , resulting in a mixture of carbon chains that typically contain between 9 and 25 carbon atoms per molecule . This fraction
4560-471: Is sometimes called petrodiesel in some academic circles. Diesel is a high-volume product of oil refineries. In many countries, diesel fuel is standardized. For example, in the European Union, the standard for diesel fuel is EN 590 . Ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD) is a diesel fuel with substantially lowered sulfur contents. As of 2016, almost all of the petroleum-based diesel fuel available in
4674-421: Is standardised; the first standards were introduced after World War II. Typically, a standard defines certain properties of the fuel, such as cetane number , density , flash point , sulphur content, or biodiesel content. Diesel fuel standards include: Diesel fuel Biodiesel fuel The principal measure of diesel fuel quality is its cetane number . A cetane number is a measure of the delay of ignition of

4788-689: Is still in widespread use in certain regions. During development of rocket engines in Germany during World War II J-2 Diesel fuel was used as the fuel component in several engines including the BMW 109-718 . J-2 diesel fuel was also used as a fuel for gas turbine engines. In the United States, petroleum-derived diesel is composed of about 75% saturated hydrocarbons (primarily paraffins including n , iso , and cycloparaffins ), and 25% aromatic hydrocarbons (including naphthalenes and alkylbenzenes ). The average chemical formula for common diesel fuel
4902-414: Is subjected to hydrodesulfurization . Usually such "straight-run" diesel is insufficient in supply and quality, so other sources of diesel fuels are blended in. One major source of additional diesel fuel is obtained by cracking heavier fractions, using visbreaking and coking. This technology converts less useful fractions but the product contains olefins ( alkenes ) which require hydrogenation to give
5016-480: Is thus suited for certain (but not all) diesel engines. Until World War II, several military vehicles, especially those that required high engine performance ( armored fighting vehicles , for example the M26 Pershing or Panther tanks), used conventional otto engines and ran on petrol. Ever since World War II, several military vehicles with diesel engines have been made, capable of running on diesel fuel. This

5244-520: Is used in the UK as a synonym for unmarked road diesel fuel. In India, taxes on diesel fuel are lower than on petrol, as the majority of the transportation for grain and other essential commodities across the country runs on diesel. Taxes on biodiesel in the US vary between states. Some states (Texas, for example) have no tax on biodiesel and a reduced tax on biodiesel blends equivalent to the amount of biodiesel in
5358-577: Is very rare, still sometimes occurs. On 13 October 2021, KAI Commuter starts trialling its Multi Trip Card as a payment card for MRT Jakarta, Transjakarta and LRT Jakarta, as part of efforts integrating Jakarta's public transportation ticketing. However, the Multi Trip Card only works at a BRT shelter and cannot be used with TOB machines on Non-BRT buses. In 2017, Transjakarta started allowing its buses to be tracked in Trafi app. Passengers could see

On US farms during this era, the name "distillate" often referred to any of
6156-541: The 1920s through 1950s, are now almost exclusively diesel-powered. Due to its ignition characteristics, diesel fuel is thus widely used in these vehicles. Since diesel fuel is not well-suited for otto engines, passenger cars, which often use otto or otto-derived engines, typically run on petrol instead of diesel fuel. However, especially in Europe and India, many passenger cars have, due to better engine efficiency, diesel engines, and thus run on regular diesel fuel. Diesel displaced coal and fuel oil for steam-powered vehicles in
6270-423: The 1930s outweighed these advantages, and aircraft diesel engines quickly fell out of use. With improvements in power-to-mass ratios of diesel engines, several on-road diesel engines have been converted to and certified for aircraft use since the early 21st century. These engines typically run on Jet A-1 aircraft fuel (but can also run on diesel fuel). Jet A-1 has ignition characteristics similar to diesel fuel, and

Passengers boarding Non-BRT buses require to tap in when boarding and tap out when alighting, both of which on the bus. For Non-BRT routes that are partially integrated into the BRT system, if the passenger boards from or alights at a BRT shelter, tap in (if boarding from BRT) or tap out (if alighting at BRT)
7410-483: The UK, diesel is normally stored in a black container to differentiate it from unleaded or leaded petrol, which are stored in green and red containers, respectively. Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) is added to diesel as a "cold flow improver". 50-500 ppm of EVA inhibits crystallization of waxes, which can block fuel filters. Antifoaming agents ( silicones ), antioxidants ( hindered phenols ), and "metal deactivating agents" (salicylaldimines) are other additives. Their use
7524-452: The US. Methanol can also be replaced with ethanol for the transesterification process, which results in the production of ethyl esters. The transesterification processes use catalysts, such as sodium or potassium hydroxide, to convert vegetable oil and methanol into biodiesel and the undesirable byproducts glycerine and water, which will need to be removed from the fuel along with methanol traces. Biodiesel can be used pure (B100) in engines where
7638-453: The United Kingdom, mainland Europe, and North America is of a ULSD type. Before diesel fuel had been standardized, the majority of diesel engines typically ran on cheap fuel oils . These fuel oils are still used in watercraft diesel engines. Despite being specifically designed for diesel engines, diesel fuel can also be used as fuel for several non-diesel engines, for example the Akroyd engine ,
7752-413: The aforementioned light fuel oils. Spark ignition engines did not start as well on distillate, so typically a small auxiliary gasoline tank was used for cold starting, and the fuel valves were adjusted several minutes later, after warm-up, to transition to distillate. Engine accessories such as vaporizers and radiator shrouds were also used, both with the aim of capturing heat, because when such an engine
7866-454: The air fresh during rush hours. The announcer system, officially mentioned as On-Board-Unit (OBU), is synced to the bus position on GPS and is automatically triggered by checkpoints along the bus route. Transjakarta offers Royaltrans as a premium service, which provides passengers with premium seating, extra comfort, free Wi-Fi, USB charging ports, an onboard entertainment TV, and no standing allowed (the bus does not take new passengers when all
7980-680: The blend, so that B20 fuel is taxed 20% less than pure petrodiesel. Other states, such as North Carolina, tax biodiesel (in any blended configuration) the same as petrodiesel, although they have introduced new incentives to producers and users of all biofuels. Diesel fuel is mostly used in high-speed diesel engines, especially motor-vehicle (e.g. car, lorry) diesel engines, but not all diesel engines run on diesel fuel. For example, large two-stroke watercraft engines typically use heavy fuel oils instead of diesel fuel, and certain types of diesel engines, such as MAN M-System engines, are designed to run on petrol with knock resistances of up to 86 RON. On
8094-413: The building they are part of. Newer shelters may also feature platform screen doors to ensure passenger safety, although its opening and closing aren't synced to the bus doors but rather whether it detects the bus in front of it. Some of the elevated bridge ramps connecting the shelters have gentle slopes to accommodate disabled passengers, although some require passengers to walk a relatively long way up
8208-592: The bus stops on its line, regardless of whether there is a passenger or not waiting there. Initially, shelters are open from 05:00 am to 10:00 pm although opening hours can be extended if there are passengers still waiting at closing time. Since midnight bus services are launched, a number of shelters start to operate 24 hours a day. Currently all the shelters (except Corridor 13's Ciledug, which still closes at 10:00 pm) serves round-the-clock. Shelters often become extremely overcrowded because of long and sometimes unpredictable intervals between buses. According to
8322-440: The company was renaming many of its BRT shelters. The changes were revealed and took place in January 2024, affecting every main corridor and 121 shelters. The reason cited by the company was due to neutralise shelter names from commercial and copyrighted names owned by third parties and to allow the commercialisation of shelter names through naming rights procedure, similar to that of MRT Jakarta and its stations. One such example
8436-417: The compulsory use of the e-tickets , since 21 February 2015. 17 August 2016 marks the start of tap-out system trial in Corridor 1 (Blok M – Kota), while a similar trial was started on 9 September 2016 in Corridor 2. The system is meant to control the flow of people going in and out of the shelters, discourage illegal entrance to and exit from the shelters, and to encourage sales and usage of
8550-480: The decade and to have all of its buses electric-powered by 2030. The characteristics of Transjakarta listed in an Asian Development Bank study are: 15 corridors were initially planned, 14 of which are currently operational. Corridors 1 to 12 and Corridor 14 operates at a ground level, mostly separated from mixed traffic by roadblocks. Corridor 13 is the first and only corridor to feature a dedicated elevated track exclusively available for Transjakarta buses. The track
8664-412: The exterior and interior appearance, quality, and comfort varies between buses operating in the same corridor. Seats in old buses face the aisle to optimise passengers' movement during rush hours. Older buses were equipped with folding or hydraulic sliding doors, while newer units were equipped with swing doors. In August 2011, Transjakarta operator installed cameras on one bus for a trial period. The plan
8778-415: The floors. To ensure proper air ventilation, fins are installed on the aluminium parts of the shelters. The concrete makes up for the supporting pillars of the shelters, which are usually painted blue. However, newer shelters built since the revitalisation project in 2022 ditch the glass and aluminium and instead have concrete-constructed walls whose height is only half of a typical human with no walls covering
8892-481: The former mayor, handed over their mandate to Suwiryo on 30 March 1950. In a stack of governments, a regional head who submits for leave, temporarily resigns, and left office from his position to the central government, then the Minister of Home Affairs prepares his successor who is a bureaucrat in the local government or even a Vice Governor , including when the position of governor is in transition. The following
9006-436: The higher passenger doors (about a meter and half from the ground) equipped with automated swing and slide mechanisms, which are controlled by the driver; however, the slide mechanism has been replaced by swing doors on all new buses, and full-height acrylic glass barriers are installed near the sliding doors, while low street-level doors are used for fully-disintegrated Non-BRT routes (that only stops at pedestrian bus stops) with
9120-448: The inlet air and then injection of fuel. Therefore, diesel fuel needs good compression ignition characteristics. The most common type of diesel fuel is a specific fractional distillate of petroleum fuel oil , but alternatives that are not derived from petroleum, such as biodiesel , biomass to liquid (BTL) or gas to liquid (GTL) diesel are increasingly being developed and adopted. To distinguish these types, petroleum-derived diesel
9234-425: The latter half of the 20th century, and is now used almost exclusively for the combustion engines of self-powered rail vehicles (locomotives and railcars). In general, diesel engines are not well-suited for planes and helicopters. This is because of the diesel engine's comparatively low power-to-mass ratio , meaning that diesel engines are typically rather heavy, which is a disadvantage in aircraft. Therefore, there
9348-427: The location of the bus in real time in the app, thus minimizing wait time and allowing them to know when the bus was going to arrive. Governor of Jakarta The Jakarta Special Region is administratively equal to a province with special status as the largest city of Indonesia . Instead of a mayor , the executive head of Jakarta is a governor . The Governor of Jakarta is an elected politician who, along with
9462-489: The manufacturer approves such use, but it is more often used as a mix with diesel, BXX where XX is the biodiesel content in percent. FAME used as fuel is specified in DIN EN 14214 and ASTM D6751 standards. In the US, diesel is recommended to be stored in a yellow container to differentiate it from kerosene , which is typically kept in blue containers, and gasoline (petrol), which is typically kept in red containers. In
9576-553: The middle of the road and require passengers to access them via elevated bridges, although some shelters lack this and are only accessed by pelican road crossing. Some of the shelters are equipped with escalators or lifts, and are designed to be seamlessly integrated into nearby buildings or integrated train stations. For instance, the Tosari ICBC stop used to be directly connected to the UOB Plaza, but has since been replaced with
9690-443: The new EN 590 standard, which has been used in the European Union ever since. In sea-going watercraft, where diesel propulsion had gained prevalence by the late 1970s due to increasing fuel costs caused by the 1970s energy crisis , cheap heavy fuel oils are still used instead of conventional motor-vehicle diesel fuel. These heavy fuel oils (often called Bunker C ) can be used in diesel-powered and steam-powered vessels. Diesel fuel
9804-486: The office was held by a Resident Assistant from 1905. There are total of five Burgermeester served before the Japanese invasion in 1942. After the Japanese occupied Jakarta on 8 March, the Japanese upgraded the status of Jakarta into a tokubetsu-shi ( 特別市 , Special City) on 8 August 1942, and appointed a tokubetsu-shichō ( 特別市長 , head of the tokubetsu-shi ) . Prior to the appointment of tokubetsu-shichō ,
9918-588: The ones partially integrated into the BRT system, are also served by standard BRT buses and a smaller version called Minitrans, although passengers can only board or alight at pedestrian bus stops through the front door near the driver, with elevated BRT doors for passengers at BRT shelters. Transjakarta operates two free-of-charge services called Mikrotrans, consisting of microbuses operated by various microbus cooperations, and Bus Wisata (intercity travel bus) consisting of double-decker buses circling around significant roads in Jakarta. Both services are not integrated into
10032-406: The operating principle of his rational heat motor would work with any kind of fuel in any state of matter. The first diesel engine prototype and the first functional Diesel engine were only designed for liquid fuels. At first, Diesel tested crude oil from Pechelbronn , but soon replaced it with petrol and kerosene , because crude oil proved to be too viscous, with the main testing fuel for
10146-598: The other hand, gas turbine and some other types of internal combustion engines, and external combustion engines , can also be designed to take diesel fuel. The viscosity requirement of diesel fuel is usually specified at 40 °C. A disadvantage of diesel fuel in cold climates is that its viscosity increases as the temperature decreases, changing it into a gel (see Compression Ignition – Gelling ) that cannot flow in fuel systems. Special low-temperature diesel contains additives to keep it liquid at lower temperatures. Trucks and buses , which were often otto-powered in
10260-512: The other proposals, but it required large foreign investments. At the time, Indonesia lost its investor confidence due to concerns regarding to unstable domestic situations in the early 2000s, so the MRT construction was unable to be realized yet. Among those four, the bus rapid transit was considered the most likely to be realized in short time because it doesn't require foreign investments. The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP)
10374-414: The past, diesel fuel contained higher quantities of sulfur . European emission standards and preferential taxation have forced oil refineries to dramatically reduce the level of sulfur in diesel fuels. In the European Union, the sulfur content has dramatically reduced during the last 20 years. Automotive diesel fuel is covered in the European Union by standard EN 590 . In the 1990s specifications allowed
10488-449: The pedestrians and do not take passengers anywhere they stand. Designated pedestrian bus stops vary greatly in form from a building with canopy or roof to just a "STOP" sign with bus icon. Exception applies to CSW 2 bus stop, part of CSW-ASEAN TOD, which is designed to resemble a BRT station except with street-level platform screen doors, allowing for easy transfer into BRT or another Non-BRT route. All buses serving these bus stops stop at all
10602-421: The petrol fuel tax. Diesel fuel is similar to heating oil , which is used in central heating . In Europe, the United States, and Canada, taxes on diesel fuel are higher than on heating oil due to the fuel tax , and in those areas, heating oil is marked with fuel dyes and trace chemicals to prevent and detect tax fraud . "Untaxed" diesel (sometimes called "off-road diesel" or "red diesel" due to its red dye)
10716-465: The ramps before doubling back to reach the boarding shelters. The floors of the bridges are typically made of tread plates, although some newer ones use concrete. However, noise is a problem for tread plates due to the movement of passengers, and some tread plates may become slippery during the rainy season. Older shelters usually lack sanitary facilities, although newer ones include large and disable-friendly restrooms and praying rooms. Other facilities in
10830-503: The saturated hydrocarbons as desired. Another refinery stream that contributes to diesel fuel is hydrocracking . Finally, kerosene is added to modify its viscosity. Synthetic diesel can be produced from many carbonaceous precursors but natural gas is most important. Raw materials are converted to synthesis gas which by the Fischer–Tropsch process is converted to a synthetic diesel. Synthetic diesel produced in this way generally
10944-466: The seats are occupied). Payment is made through electronic tapping equipment on board the buses, and the service is not integrated into the main BRT system. Royaltrans is not subsidised by Jakarta Municipal Government as it primarily serves connecting satellite cities. Transjakarta also operates Metrotrans, which uses low entry buses, serves Non-BRT routes without integration to the BRT service, and stops at pedestrian bus stops. Some Non-BRT routes, especially
11058-559: The shelter. In 2013, Transjakarta introduced the use of prepaid cards or e-tickets from BRI BRizzi, BCA Flazz, BNI Tapcash, Mandiri E-Money , Bank DKI JakCard, and Bank Mega MegaCash. The prepaid cards can be purchased and topped-up at any ticket booth in the shelter throughout the system, or the ATM of the issuing bank. The e-ticket is priced at Rp 40,000, Rp 20,000 for the card itself and a balance of Rp 20,000. The prepaid cards, except for Bank DKI JakCard and Bank Mega MegaCash, are also valid as
11172-516: The smaller classes may also offer gasoline-fuelled engines. The dieselization of tractors and heavy equipment began in Germany before World War II but was unusual in the United States until after that war. During the 1950s and 1960s, it progressed in the US as well. Diesel fuel is commonly used in oil and gas extracting equipment, although some locales use electric or natural gas powered equipment. Tractors and heavy equipment were often multifuel in
11286-504: The space all the way to the top, allowing for air to move and circulate freely. The floors are also made of concrete, and all the pillars and covers are coloured creamy white instead of blue. Exception of this design applies to some shelters which are part of a larger building (such as CSW shelter part of its TOD building and Pulo Gebang shelter part of the Pulo Gebang Bus Terminal building), as such their design resembles
11400-566: The special status that was assigned to the city). After the collapse of Japan, Indonesian nationalists who declared independence on August 17, 1945, the government of Jakarta City was changed from the Japanese into the Jakarta National Administration in September 1945. After the war, the Dutch name Batavia was internationally recognized until full Indonesian independence was achieved on December 27, 1949 and Jakarta
11514-727: The streets that became part of the busway routes. The first Transjakarta line opened to the public on 15 January 2004. It was free for the first two weeks, after which commercial operations started on 1 February 2004. At present, Transjakarta has 13 primary routes and ten cross-corridor routes . In addition, there are about 200 "feeder" routes that serve beyond the exclusive busway corridors to serve satellite cities in Greater Jakarta . The number of Transjakarta buses has also increased dramatically, from 605 buses in 2015 to 4,300 in 2020. The fare has remained Rp 3,500 (27 US cents) per passenger since operations began. The service set
11628-492: The upper floor being a commercial area and photobooth balcony. The revitalization project is expected to rebuild 45 stations across the city and is due to be finished by mid-2024. The revitalisation includes full reconstruction of the shelters with the new style, such as half-height cream-colored concrete-constructed walls, concrete-made floors, and the inclusion of sanitary facilities. Starting in March 2023, multiple stations along
11742-741: The upper story serving another corridor going through flyover (such as Flyover Jatinegara, a transit point of Corridor 10 and 11) or as a commercial area of food chains and minimarkets (such as Bundaran HI ASTRA, MH Thamrin, Tosari, and Dukuh Atas). Based on the routes they serve, there are three types of Transjakarta shelters. All shelters serve at least one BRT corridor, and may also serve some cross-corridor BRT routes and partially-integrated Non-BRT routes. Other than BRT shelters, Non-BRT routes also stop at regular pedestrian bus stops. All routes stopping at any pedestrian bus stops, be it partially-integrated Non-BRT, fully-disintegrated Non-BRT, Mikrotrans, and Bus Wisata buses only stop at designated bus stops along
11856-509: The use of nuclear fuel . Diesel fuel is often used as the main ingredient in oil-base mud drilling fluid. The advantage of using diesel is its low cost and its ability to drill a wide variety of difficult strata, including shale, salt and gypsum formations. Diesel-oil mud is typically mixed with up to 40% brine water. Due to health, safety and environmental concerns, Diesel-oil mud is often replaced with vegetable, mineral, or synthetic food-grade oil-base drilling fluids, although diesel-oil mud
11970-616: The user can be fined (e.g. US$ 10,000 in the US). In the United Kingdom, Belgium and the Netherlands, it is known as red diesel (or gas oil), and is also used in agricultural vehicles, home heating tanks, refrigeration units on vans/trucks which contain perishable items such as food and medicine and for marine craft. Diesel fuel, or marked gas oil is dyed green in the Republic of Ireland and Norway. The term "diesel-engined road vehicle" (DERV)
12084-478: The vice governor and 106 members of the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) , is accountable for the strategic government of the city of Jakarta . Governing system of Jakarta has changed throughout its history. On March 5, 1942, Japanese occupied Batavia from the Dutch control and the city was named Jakarta Jakarta Special City ( ジャカルタ特別市 , Jakaruta tokubetsu-shi ) , in accordance with
12198-489: Was a coal-dust–producing industry existent, nor was fine, high-quality coal-dust commercially available in the late 1890s. This is the reason why the Diesel engine was never designed or planned as a coal-dust engine. Only in December 1899, did Diesel test a coal-dust prototype, which used external mixture formation and liquid fuel pilot injection. This engine proved to be functional, but suffered from piston ring failure after
12312-734: Was an important party accompanying the BRT planning process. The initial concept was created by PT Pamintori Cipta, a transportation consultant who has frequently worked with the Jakarta Office of Transportation ( Dinas Perhubungan Provinsi DKI Jakarta ). Apart from the private sector, there were several other parties that also supporting this project, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and University of Indonesia 's Center for Transportation Studies (UI–CTS). The buses were given lanes restricted to other traffic and separated by concrete blocks on
12426-413: Was held in Jakarta on 15 February 2017. There were 3 contesting pairs in that election, but no one obtained 50% of the vote. As per law, a runoff election was held between the top two pairs on 19 April 2017. The official results of the election is Anies Baswedan - Sandiaga Uno won the election with 57.96% of vote defeating Basuki Tjahaja Purnama - Djarot Saiful Hidayat, who got 42.04% of the vote. Below
12540-516: Was officially proclaimed the national capital of Indonesia. Based on the Act No. 5 of 1974 relating to the Fundamentals of Regional Government, Jakarta was confirmed as the capital of Indonesia and one of Indonesia's 26 provinces. This first government was held by a mayor until the end of 1960, when the office was changed to that of a governor . The last mayor of Jakarta was Sudiro, until he
12654-426: Was replaced by Dr Sumarno as governor of the province. In August 2007, Jakarta held its first ever election to choose a governor, whereas previously the city's governors were elected by members of DPRD. The poll is part of a country-wide decentralisation drive, allowing for direct local elections in several areas. Elections for governor and deputy governor are held for a fixed five-year term. The most recent election
12768-494: Was run on distillate, it ran better when both it and the air it inhaled were warmer rather than at ambient temperature. Dieselization with dedicated diesel engines (high-compression with mechanical fuel injection and compression ignition) replaced such systems and made more efficient use of the diesel fuel being burned. Poor quality diesel fuel has been used as an extraction agent for liquid–liquid extraction of palladium from nitric acid mixtures. Such use has been proposed as
12882-659: Was sometimes unavailable, or different from the usual bank device issued in one route. This method of payment was gradually phased out in favor of the Tap-On-Bus (TOB) system. TOB acts similarly to the E-ticket payment system on shelters. It accepts payment from all prepaid bank-issued cards that are eligible on bus shelters. The only difference is that payment is done on board the Non-BRT bus instead of shelters. In 2019, all buses assigned to Route 1H, 1N, 1R, 4F and 5F already has
12996-485: Was to show that the tree does not possess supernatural qualities. On 15 April 2022, revitalization of 11 bus shelters began to improve passenger service, expanding public spaces for tourism, and accelerate integration with other public transportation services. Tosari and Bundaran HI ASTRA shelters are revitalized into an iconic "twin cruise ships that anchored at the Selamat Datang Monument ", with
